Megh Malhar

I visited my village after many years, to experience the season of monsoon all over again.
Monsoon is a very special season of Bengal. During this time, the light and the weather here is unlike any other places on earth. This majestic beauty of the rain has influenced a great deal of poems, novels and songs in Bengali literature. I have longed to capture the essence of Monsoon in my village through my camera for a very long time. I relived age-old stories of the rain,of the river and of my childhood. The essence of the past and beauty of nature were new to the city man that I had become.
Megh Malhar is a Hindustani classical raga. The name derives from the Sanskrit word Megh, meaning cloud. Legends say that this raga has the power to bring out rains in the area where it is sung.
